Message Text: Apple announced that its matchbook-size iPod shuffle MP3 player would be available in stores worldwide on November 3.

Apple heralded the shuffle as the world's smallest digital music player, weighing a half-ounce (14 grams), and priced it at 79 dollars (US).

"With its ultra-compact design and built-in clip, the new iPod shuffle is the most wearable iPod ever," Apple vice president Greg Joswiak said in a release.

"The new iPod shuffle completes our all-new lineup of iPods for this holiday season and beyond, and we hope it's going to be a huge hit."

The shuffle was built with a gigabyte of flash memory capable of storing as many as 240 songs, according to the Cupertino, California, based maker of iPods and Macintosh computers.

The promised battery life for a shuffle was 12 hours before recharging.
