Message Text: Adaptec Ultra320 SCSI RAID Controllers With RAID 5EE Show 30 Percent Increase in Performance Over Standard RAID 5

Adaptec, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADPT), a global leader in storage solutions, today announced that its Ultra320 SCSI RAID controllers now come standard with the Adaptec Advanced Data Protection Suite -- the industry's most advanced data protection software. With this announcement, Adaptec is one of the first vendors to offer protection against the failure of two disk drives (RAID 6) on SCSI and the only vendor providing hot space (RAID 5EE), which delivers up to 30 percent improvement in RAID performance over RAID 5. Adaptec now offers the same advanced RAID data protection software across parallel SCSI, Serial ATA (SATA), and Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) RAID controllers in order to simplify reseller qualification and data management for its customers.

Having the advanced RAID data protection features available across RAID controllers is key for AliJas, Inc., a provider of convergence solutions in Philadelphia who sells server and storage solutions as part of an integrated internet access and telecommunications system to small and medium businesses across the globe. AliJas has standardized on Adaptec RAID controllers both in the solutions it sells to its customers as well as within its own business systems which span more than 50 remote processing locations around the world.

"Beyond a doubt, Adaptec is the industry's leading provider of RAID data protection software which is a primary reason why we only use Adaptec RAID controllers," said John Kukulka, CEO and president at AliJas, Inc. "No other vendor makes RAID so complete, reliable and simple to implement and maintain. We especially like RAID 6 that allows us to lose up to two drives per server and still operate, while our customers appreciate Adaptec's hot swap feature that makes it easy for someone with limited or no IT experience to quickly change drives."

Kukulka continued, "Adaptec has gone significantly above and beyond traditional RAID functionality with their unique Snapshot Backup feature that allows us to do more than just take a picture of data. If we encounter a problem, we can access a whole stream of data rather than just the information that is in memory -- that is a huge benefit for us to ensure our customers have effective disaster recovery functionality."

Adaptec Ultra320 SCSI Controllers now offer standard RAID levels (RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 10, and RAID 50) as well as the advanced RAID functionality included in the Adaptec Advanced Data Protection Suite right out-of-the-box. In addition to RAID 6 and RAID 5EE, the Advanced Data Protection Suite also includes RAID 1E and Copyback Hot Spare for improved management and array tracking through the ability to automatically reset a hot spare. Customers can also choose to purchase the optional Snapshot Backup feature for their Adaptec SCSI, SAS or SATA IOP-based RAID controllers for improved data back-up, management and disaster recovery by creating a point-in-time copy of an array.

"Although some companies have begun the transition to serial technologies, parallel SCSI continues to be an important technology for server and storage solutions," said Tim Connolly, vice president of marketing for the Data Protection Solutions Group at Adaptec. "Regardless of the transition to new drive interfaces, Adaptec will continue to maintain leadership by bringing advanced data protection and management software features to market across our entire line of controllers -- from parallel SCSI, to SATA, to SAS. No other RAID data protection software stack is more tested and proven across a variety of applications and business situations than Adaptec's."

Pricing and Availability

These advanced data protection features have recently become available for all new purchases of the Adaptec SCSI RAID 2130SLP one-channel controller and Adaptec SCSI RAID 2230SLP two-channel controller. Existing SCSI RAID 2130SLP and 2230SLP controllers can be upgraded with the Adaptec Advanced Data Protection Suite for US$75 MSRP -- visit www.adaptec.com/premium_raid for more information. The Adaptec Advanced Data Protection Suite is also available for the Adaptec Serial ATA II RAID 2420SA four-port controller, the Adaptec Serial ATA II RAID 2820SA eight-port controller, the Adaptec Serial Attached SCSI RAID 4800SAS eight-port PCI-X controller and the Adaptec Serial Attached SCSI RAID 4805SAS eight-port PCIe controller. The Snapshot Backup feature is available as a software license key upgrade for US$199 MSRP. For more information, please visit www.adaptec.com or call 1-800-442-7274.
