Message Text: Samsung President Gee Sung Choi delivered the opening keynote address at IFA 2006, the world's largest consumer electronics exhibition. The speech comes at a time when Samsung is experiencing strong growth worldwide, with particular success in the European market.

During his keynote speech at IFA in 2003, Mr. Choi predicted the strong growth of the consumer electronics industry, which he called "The Digital Renaissance." During this year's keynote address, he reviewed developments coming from the digital transition that are opening up many exciting new opportunities.

Mr. Choi highlighted Samsung's strong leadership position in innovative products designed for home and mobile entertainment. These products included High Definition TVs, Blu-ray Disc Players, Home Theatre Systems, MP3 Players and cutting-edge Mobile TVs. He also described the importance that Samsung places on the European market, with major investments in manufacturing, logistics, R&D and design facilities.

The World's First Mass-Market Blu-Ray Disc Player BD-P1000

The new device let consumers take full advantage of high-definition displays, playing content at native 720p, 1080i or 1080p video resolutions. In addition, the BD-P1000 offers full 1080p output via HDMI for the best available resolution and up-conversion capabilities for improving the picture of standard DVDs. The player has been launched in U.S. market from June 25th and will be introduced in European market from mid-October.

The BD player includes a high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) output. It will also decode standard multi-channel audio.

Samsung developed major key components of the BD-P1000 internally. Samsung's unique technology - one pickup with two lenses - allows it to also play standard DVDs and CDs in addition to Blu-ray discs while allowing for more cost-effective production. The supported DVD formats include DVD-RAM, DVD-RW and DVD-R. Additional features of the BD-P1000 include 10 in 2 memory card reader, Dolby digital, DTS and pop-up; a full colour high-definition animated button; and improved bitmap and text subtitles.

Four New Plasma TVs

Samsung released 4 models (Product name: PS42/50H, PS42/50P7HD) of FilterBright PlusTM Plasma TV utilizing the 'black panel' and 'FilterBright' technologies.

Samsung said that the new products have improved the characteristic weaknesses in Plasma TVs, so that clear image quality can be enjoyed under bright lighting or in broad daylight as well as in dark situations.

Samsung achieved a more vivid picture by attaching optical films on the front glass filters. Unlike conventional plasma TVs with complete colour coating on their glass panels, FilterBright Plus made it possible to block the external light without lowering the brightness through maximizing the internal light.

Samsung Electronics' new Plasma TV also contains the newly developed 'Smooth Motion Driver' technology. This technology corrects shaking or obscured outlines of moving images on the screen.

These new models come with more powerful connectivity. WISELINK offers extended "9-in-2" compatibility, enabling connection to nine different multi-memory cards with two slots. Addition to that USB and PictBridge are equipped with Printer Port. And two HDMI ports lets viewers simultaneously connect two devices with full signal transmission.

All cables and menu buttons, including the power switch, are hidden, so as not to show from the front.

As for features, the SyncMaster 971P provides both horizontal and vertical viewing angles of 178˚, 1500:1 contrast ratio, and 6 ms response time.

Samsung created the first terrestrial DMB terminal in September 2004, developing portable DMB receiving technology and releasing the first 6 inch Mobile TV in July 2005.

The design of the new Mobile TV is in line with the ?sensitivity design? of the company's R7 LCD TV (? Bordeaux ?) series. As for features, it promises high-quality video and audio based on excellent mobile receiving characteristics. It is expected to be used as a mobile digital TV at home, where it provides great picture quality free of network connections.

The largest among Mobile TVs, the 10 inch screen is configured for the 16:9 aspect ratio that is optimal for showing digital broadcasting. MP3 and digital photo viewing functions are added, and connection to an external HDD is provided for playing downloaded multimedia content.
