Message Text: Samsung Electronics said it will start volume producing 82-inch panels for digital intelligence displays (DIDs), rather than for LCD TVs, by processing seventh-generation (7G) glass substrates, starting from this November, according to the Korean-language Electronic Times, Seoul.

The 82-inch directional panel will be used in the DID market, for applications that include indoor and outdoor advertisement bulletin boards in airports, museums and subways. The DID application is a fourth-generation application for large-size panels, following notebook, monitor and TV applications.

Samsung introduced for the first time an 82-inch panel for TV-use in March 2006. The panel has a resolution of 1,920?1,080 and a 180-degree viewing angle. During the FPD International show last October, the company showed the 82-inch directional DID-use panel for the first time.

At the 7G plant Samsung has jointly established with Sony, each substrate can be cut into two 82-inch panels, according to Samsung.
