Mitsubishi Chemicals announced that the first single sided dual-layer 30GB HD DVD-R media (30GB) for video recording will be available in the market in late July. The disc feature a capacity of 30GB in two layers, meaning that it will be able to hold up to 150 minutes of high definition video.
The Japanese company has been a pioneer in the optical media manufacturing business and has been the first company that produced dual layer DVD media in the past. Utilizing its experience and advanced AZO technology, Mitsubishi brings the first HD DVD-R DL recordable media on the market and promises playback compatibility and durability.
The discs can be recorded at 1x, corresponding to the Ver.2.0 standard set by the DVD Forum. In addition they are compatible with the AACS (Advanced Access Content System) technology. The company did not reveal pricing details for the new HD DVD-R DL media.
