Hitachi Maxell unveiled the "UA20-SDMSXD", a multi memory card reader corresponding to the SDHC (SD High-Capacity) specifications Version 2.00.
The device will be available on the Japanese market on June 15, for about 2,000 yen.
The new SDHC specifications were established to meet the growing demand for HD (High Definition) video and high-resolution image recording used in many SD enabled devices. The SD Card Association released SD Specifications Version 2.00 for the memory units with capacity beyond 2 GB (4GB-32GB).
SDHC adopts the FAT32 file system in order to offer higher capacities. The previous SD standard used the FAT12/16 file system.
Hitachi Maxell's UA20-SDMSXD supports reading and writing of MMC/xD-Picture Card (typeM/typeH)/SD memory card/Memory Stick (PRO). It also supports miniSD/Memory Stick (PRO) DUO through a seperate adaptor.
The device can be connected to PC through USB 2.0 interface. It's size is 39x70x9mm (width x depth x height) and its weight is 20g.
