 Maxell Unveils First 12x DVD-RAM Discs

Message Text: Japanese Maxell inrtroduces the first DVD-RAM dics compliant with the Version 2.2 Revision 5.0 format specifications, for recording at 6-12x.

The new discs are compatible with DVD-RAM2 burners only, accrording to Maxell. In case of reading, compatibility of the new media with currently available hardware is limited, and a firmware upgrade for the DVD-RAM drives is required in most cases.



The DVD Forum approved the new high-speed recording standard fopr DVD-RAM in September of 2005. The RAM2 meia can be recorded at 6x, 8x, 12x and 16x. The RAM2 compatible hardware can be easily identified by the corresponding logo.



Maxell's 12x DVD-RAM discs will be available in the Japanese market in March the 24th, priced at approximately 1000 Yen ($8.60).
