Message Text: Japanese I-O Data plans to release a unique external DVD burner, which features two DVD burners in a single case and allows copying of CD/DVD media without a PC needed.

The DVR-UW8DP will be available on the Japanese market in the middle of March, priced at 55,650 Yen ($472).

The device bundles two DV-W28SL Super-multi drives from TEAC, offering 2.4x recording for DVD+R DL and 5x for the DVD-RAM media. Other writing speeds include 8X speed for DVD±R, 4x for DVD±RW, 24x for CD-R, 16x for CD-RW.

Connected to the PC, the external USB2.0 device can be used as a normal DVD burner. What is more interesting is the fact that the device can be used as a standalone CD/DVD recorder. Just place a blank CD/DVD disc on the first disc tray and the disc to be copied on the second tray, and press the copy button. The device is able to copy all types of the supported CD/DVD media, except DVD-RAM. Other features include verification of the recorded data on a disc, comparison of two recorded discs as well as erase of rewritable CD and DVD media.

The Japanese retail package comes complete with the B's Recorder GOLD8 Security recording software, the B's CLiP6 packet writing software as well as with the essential DVD-RAM drivers.
