Elpida Memory announced on December 19 that it has begun shipping samples of the 2Gbit DDR2 SDRAM that is designed using an 80nm process.
Among the first 80nm chips that have been shipped for custom evaluation in the world, the Elpida samples are available in three different data rate speeds: 533, 667, and 800Mbps. They are configured 64Mwords x 4bits x 8 banks or 32Mwords x 8bits x 8 banks.
Available in 68-ball FBGA packages for easy mounting on dual in-line memory modules (DIMMs), the 2Gbit SDRAM chips will go into commercial production once Elpida sees a market demand.
