Message Text: The SLI concept is a reality, but what about two GPUs on a single board?

Asus had announced a prototype dual-GPU card based on the Nvidia 6800-series chips some months ago, but the card was cancelled and it never reached the market, in the light of NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX launch.

Currently, the Taiwanese company seemt to have reconsided dual-chip concept and plans to release a new graphics card that will be powered by two identical 7800GT GPUs. The "EN7800GT Dual" card features GeForce 7800GT graphics processing units on the same PCB.

It is not clear whether using dual GPUs on the same PCB performs differently than a corresponding SLI configuration. In addition, such a card would be possibly have be longer and higher compared to to typical graphics cards and may not fit into typical computer cases. At last, if size is not an issue, then we should consider the dual-chip card solution as an interesting buy, as soon as its cost is lower that SLIs.
