Message Text: Ulead Systems, Inc., a leading developer of video editing, image editing and Web graphics software, today introduced Ulead DVD MovieFactory, a consumer DVD authoring program.

DVD MovieFactory gives home and office users an affordable and simple solution for sharing high-quality videos on DVDs and CDs. By employing an intuitive wizard-style authoring workflow, DVD MovieFactory makes placing home movies onto DVD and CD media a simple, enjoyable camcorder-to-DVD experience.

With Ulead DVD MovieFactory, video novices and enthusiasts can create interactive, professionally designed scene selection menus with two layers of navigation. Ulead provides a wide variety of template themes, and users can even design their own backgrounds for maximum personalization and impact. Adding background music to enhance menus is simple using MP3, WAV or MPEG Audio files. DVD MovieFactory supports multiple movie projects so users can present multiple movies on a single disc. The software also makes DVD menu organization flexible with a main menu of all available movies on a disc plus a scene-menu to navigate within each video clip. Users may also add an introductory video to their projects so that a video will play before the chapter menu appears.

``With the release of Ulead DVD MovieFactory, turning home videos into interactive DVD movies is now easy for anyone to do,'' said Lewis Liaw, senior vice president at Ulead Systems, Inc. ``DVD MovieFactory is the latest in our continuously growing line of software products that illustrates our commitment to making complex technology simple.''

Ulead DVD MovieFactory will output video to VCD, SVCD and DVD for playback on set top DVD players and CD or DVD drives on personal computers. VCD and SVCD are video formats that can be recorded onto CD media and then be played on home set-top DVD players with navigation menus similar to those found on studio-produced DVD movies. Both VCD and SVCD are a cost-effective way for people to create a DVD experience using a CD-R or CD-RW recording device.

To simplify the recording process, Ulead DVD MovieFactory works directly with the newest DVD-R, DVD-RW, and DVD+RW recorders as well as most CD-R and CD-RW devices without the need for additional burning software. Users can preview the DVD in real time before recording to ensure that the project plays as expected before committing the file to CD or DVD. Also, a disc image of the DVD project can be saved for future burning.

No additional video-editing program is required to use Ulead DVD MovieFactory. The program contains Video Toolbox that lets users capture, trim and create DVD compliant files. DVD MovieFactory also integrates seamlessly with Ulead VideoStudio 5.0 or MediaStudio Pro 6.0 or 6.5; exporting completed movie projects from these programs into the DVD authoring program is a one-step process. However, customers can use any video editing program they wish to further customize their movies.

Ulead DVD MovieFactory supports capture from both analog and digital sources with an easy way to split DV video into scenes using automatic scene detection or manual slicing. Ulead employs the Ligos MPEG-2 codec (encoding and decoding program) that allows DVD MovieFactory users to capture MPEG-2 files in real-time, edit MPEG-2 files with frame accuracy and produce the MPEG-2 files necessary for DVD creation. Limitless Capture allows users to capture a continuous DV video stream beyond 4 GB in size -- even when using the FAT32 file system (present in many Microsoft Windows operating systems) which inflicts a 4 GB capture ceiling. Ulead Video Toolbox also provides a trimming feature so users may remove unwanted footage from their video clips.

Ulead DVD MovieFactory meets the quality standards of Microsoft Corp.'s Designed for Windows logo program. The Designed for Windows XP Logo Program promotes quality product development practices that ensure a good user experience on Windows XP. The program brings hardware and software quality standards under a single logo, making it easy for customers to recognize products that will deliver a great computing experience with the Windows XP operating system, available on Oct. 25.

``It's exciting to see the great functionality the Ulead DVD MovieFactory provides Windows XP users,'' said John Frederiksen, general manager of Windows marketing at Microsoft. ``Ulead is helping users extend the digital media experience in Windows XP.''

Ulead DVD MovieFactory will be available in retail and online stores in October 2001 for an estimated street price of $49.95. DVD MovieFactory also includes Ulead Photo Express 4.0 My Custom Edition Plus, an easy-to-use photo editor, that lets users create CD/DVD labels and jewel case covers as well as design custom backgrounds for DVD scene menus.
