Message Text: Several electronics companies have filed suit in Germany against Optical Disc Service ("ODS") for infringing patents used in DVD disc manufacturing.

These companies include France Telecom, Fujitsu, GE, Philips, Matsushita, Mitsubishi, Bosch, Sony, JVC and Thomson.

The legal action, exercised by MPEG LA on behalf of the above companies and Columbia University, was initiated because of ODS's refusal to apply for a license from these individual patent holders related to MPEG-2 standards as described in the official Video Specifications of DVD (part 3). MPEG LA, a company representing worldwide individual patent holders on specific platforms and their related technologies, has requested ODS to rectify this unfairness immediately.
