Micron Technology today announced it is the first supplier to sample 2 gigabit (Gb) double data rate 2 (DDR2) components to a select server customer.
Micron's 2Gb component is designed to enable up to 8
gigabyte (GB) high density modules, providing more memory per server with less
space and power consumption than current component offerings.
"Delivering the first functional 2Gb components is a pinnacle milestone that
clearly defines our progress, distinguishes us from our competition and
highlights our commitment to the server market," said Terry Lee, executive
director of Advanced Technology and Strategic Marketing for Micron's Systems
Memory Group. "By being the first to provide the server market with these 2Gb
DDR2 components, we expect to enable customers to immediately begin the testing
and qualification process, thus speeding their time to market."
Previously, Micron
announced the first validations of 1Gb DDR2 and 1Gb DDR devices for all leading
x86 server platforms, as well as first availabilities of VLP registered
dual-inline memory modules (RDIMMs), 110nm 1Gb DDR, 1Gb DDR2, 4GB DDR RDIMMs,
and 4GB DDR2 RDIMMs.
Engineering samples are expected to be made publicly available in the second
half of 2005. For additional information on Micron products, please contact
