Zenith Introduces 61-Inch Widescreen Integrated HDTV to Custom Installation Market

Zenith Electronics Corporation expands its family of video display solutions for the custom installation market with a new 61-inch widescreen (61W) rear-projection integrated HDTV, at CEDIA EXPO 2001 this weekend in Indianapolis. Also announced for the first time for the custom-installation home theater market is Zenith's new 60-inch widescreen LCD rear-projection HDTV monitor, digital HDTV set-top box and progressive-scan DVD players.
Zenith IQD61W35 HDTV. This integrated rear-projection set is designed to receive and decode HDTV broadcasts and display stunning 1920 x 1080i HDTV images on a giant widescreen (16:9) display. Two built-in tuners, an advanced ATSC VSB tuner and an NTSC tuner, upconvert received images to 1080i for superior HD quality from the set's powerful 7-inch liquid-cooled CRTs and five-element Super Image lens system.
The new 61W HDTV is one of a dozen new rear-projection HDTV and HDTV monitor models Zenith is launching for 2001. Ideal for home theaters and other home entertainment areas, the IQD61W35 is a high-impact HDTV that does not require a separate set-top box to receive digital HDTV broadcasts. In fact, this model incorporates Zenith's third-generation VSB chip.
Built-in scaling capabilities allow images to be presented in 16:9 widescreen or 4:3 conventional aspect ratios, while a wide 160-degree viewing angle maximizes the screen's viewability. Additional picture enhancements include an advanced 3D Y/C comb filter that digitally controls and separates color (chroma) and picture (luminance) information, advanced scan velocity modulation, 9-point digital convergence, Picture-in-Picture and Picture-out- of-Picture capabilities.
Audio features include Dolby Digital 5.1 Channel Surround Sound, stereo, MTS and SAP capability, Zenith's EZ Sound dynamic bass, and built-in 20-watt speakers.
The HDTV's numerous convenience features include intuitive onscreen menus viewable in three languages, a universal illuminated remote with Thumbstick control, parental control with a V-Chip, Zenith's EZ feature package with an EZ volume limiter, and an on/off timer for use during vacations.
The extensive jack panel includes two high-resolution Component inputs, three S-Video inputs and one output, Zenith's EZ Link 15-pin RGB input for a digital set-top box, three audio/video inputs and outputs, a center channel input, and a fixed/variable audio output set.
The IQD61W35 HDTV is available this quarter from Zenith dealers at a suggested price of $5,999.
Zenith D60WLCD HDTV Monitor. This big, bright LCD rear-projection HDTV monitor is one of Zenith's new digital display solutions for the custom installation market. Ideal for built-in applications, this giant-screen rear- projector is only 17.5 inches deep.
The D60WLCD is an LCD rear-projection monitor designed to accept HDTV, SDTV and NTSC inputs and display high-definition images on a giant, widescreen display. Three internal 1.2-inch LCD panels, augmented by a nine-element lens system, are designed to deliver superb 1280 x 720p resolution.
Featuring dual NTSC tuners, the giant projection monitor is ideal for home theaters and other home entertainment areas, and can be readily paired with Zenith's progressive scan or standard DVD players, Zenith's HDTV broadcast/satellite set-top receiver (through the set's component or RGB inputs), VCRs and other traditional video source components.
Built-in aspect ratio correction allows images to be presented in 16:9 widescreen or 4:3 conventional aspect ratios, while generous 100-degree horizontal and 30-degree vertical viewing angles maximize viewability. Additional image enhancing features include an advanced 3D Y/C comb filter that digitally controls and separates color (chroma) and picture (luminance) information, a peak brightness of 680 candles/square meter, a contrast ratio of 200:1, and Picture-in-Picture, Picture-out-of-Picture and split-screen capabilities.
Audio features include Zenith's EZ Sound dynamic bass, and a pair of built-in 15-watt speakers, while the monitor's numerous convenience features include an illuminated universal remote with Thumbstick control, ``V-Chip'' parental control, and a scratch-resistant screen protector.
The extensive 36-jack connection panel includes a high-resolution Component Video input, a Composite Video input, two S-Video inputs, front- panel video jacks and Zenith's EZ-Link 15-pin RGB input for a digital set-top box.
Though not exhibited at CEDIA, the D60WLCD rear-projection LCD HDTV monitor will be available in November at a suggested price of $7,999.
Zenith DTV1080 HDTV Digital Set-Top Box. This digital HDTV set-top receiver, shipping this month, is a vital component for improving the versatility of almost any type of home theater, and demonstrates Zenith's commitment to being the complete video solution source for the custom installation home theater market.
The DTV1080 is designed to receive all ATSC digital TV formats, both DIRECTV HD and standard signals, and output them at resolutions of 1080i, 720p and 480p for outstanding video quality.
In addition to Zenith's third-generation VSB digital TV chip, it includes: an advanced NTSC tuner with a 3D Y/C comb filter that digitally controls and separates color (chroma) and picture (luminance) information, resulting in excellent picture detail and a minimum of cross-color noise; and an enhanced line doubler designed to sharpen picture quality.
Dolby Digital 5.1 processing provides exceptional six-channel surround sound, and built-in aspect ratio correction automatically switches between widescreen (16:9) and conventional (4:3) format images. DIRECTV's Advanced Program Guide, which is included, delivers seamless program integration.
A tuning indicator makes it especially easy to install the optional 18 x 24-inch elliptical antenna and satellite dish. Additional features include a V-chip for parental viewing control, channel labels, favorite channel selection, multi-room signal capability, and a universal remote control with Thumbstick operation.
The DTV1080's extensive jack pack includes an RGB 15-pin output, optical and coaxial Dolby Digital 5.1 outputs, switchable component video connections, a DIRECTV input, two RF inputs and one output, one S-Video and two A/V outputs, a Smart Card slot, a modem, a phone jack and a serial port.
The DTV1080 HD Satellite Set-Top Receiver will be available later this month from Zenith dealers at a suggested price of $799.
Zenith Progressive Scan DVD Players. Two progressive-scan DVD players -- a five-disc changer and a single-disc player -- are being launched into the custom installation market.
The five-disc changer (Model DVD5591) features a built-in Dolby Digital 5.1 channel decoder and 3D Surround Sound. Additional high-end features include 4x-16x moveable zoom, programmable and repeat play modes, and multiple interfaces.
The new single-disc model DVD2381 features 3D Surround Sound, DTS and Digital outputs, and multiple interfaces, including composite A/V outputs, optical and coaxial digital audio outputs, S-Video out, Component and Progressive Scan, and component video outputs.
Zenith's new progressive-scan DVD players reflect the company's aggressive approach to the market, and its ability to provide a range of players and features to meet diverse home theater and home entertainment needs. When paired with high-performance widescreen displays such as Zenith's plasma, LCD, front-projection and rear-projection models, these DVD units enhance the home theater experience.
The progressive scan feature enables both DVD players to deliver a smoother, sharper looking picture with higher apparent resolution than conventional DVD players by displaying horizontal lines of resolution in a progressive instead of interlaced format. The improvement in image quality that results is especially dramatic on large-screen displays.
Both models play DVD, CD, CD-R and CD-RW discs, come equipped with MP3 and HDCD decoding, and include a shuttle MBR remote control and a user-friendly graphic user interface. The DVD5591 and DVD2381 are available now at suggested prices of $349 and $199, respectively. |
