Motorola evaluating mobile TV-enabled handset standards

Motorola will launch handsets that support mobile TV, but has yet to decide which technology it will choose, according to Jerry Kuo, technical and product director of mobile devices at Motorola Taiwan.
Motorola is now evaluating several standards, including digital video broadcasting-handheld (DVB-H) technology, for integration into its handsets, Kuo said, while overseeing the launch of the company's first 3G-enabled handset for the Taiwan market, the E1000.
Nokia and Texas Instruments are currently the two major proponents for the adoption of the DVB-H technology, according to market sources.
The E1000 uses WCDMA 2100MHz, GSM/GPRS 900/1800/1900 and will be available through local channels Taiwan Cellular and Synnex Technology by the end of this month with a price tag of NT$19,800 (about US$639), company sources said.
Motorola will launch soon another model of its 3G handset, the V975, for the local market, the source noted. |
