 AMD showcases Turion 64-bit notebooks

Message Text: AMD showcased four notebook models based on its 64-bit Turion 64 mobile technology at WinHEC Taipei 2005.

The four models shown were the ASUS A6000, Compaq CT9-C3 from Hewlett-Packard (HP), the MSI Mega Book S270 and the E12KT from Twinhead International.

According to AMD, Turion 64-based notebooks are expected to be launch in June of this year at the earliest, although MSI's Chinese-language website claims the Mega Book S270 will be launched at the end of this month.

Main features of the forthcoming Turion are the following:

- Offers both 32-bit performance for oday, and can also run tomorrow's 64-bit applications
- HyperTransport Technology boosts overall system agility
- Enhanced Virus Protection with Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2
- Designed for Thin & Light Notebooks.
- AMD PowerNow! Technology enables longer battery life and reduced heat generation enabling you to work or play longer
- Wireless Compatibility with all currently available 802.11a,b,g, and Bluetooth wireless solutions to stay connected anywhere you go
- 3DNow! Professional Technology and SSE2 and SSE3 instructions enable stellar performance and playback quality on digital entertainment features such as games, streaming video and audio, DVDs, and music.
