After that, the current recommendation of the "RW Compatible" indication on not only RW Playback devices, but expansion of use to DVD-RW's VR recordable/playback devices and PC application software were suggested for consideration and approved.

Also for this March, the annual "RWPPI Members Questionnaire" was conducted and summarized by Ongen Publishing Co., Ltd., in which opinions and suggestions were reported in detail.

This was then followed by Mitsubishi Electric Corporation's introduction of their new DVD "Rakureko" Recorder by Mr. Shimamoto and Mr. Hatanaka. Live demonstration with detail captured the members interested.

Next, Mr. Matsumoto of JVC took the stand to explain about the Dual Layer DVD-RW disc technology, which was already recently released to the press. Currently through the DVD Forum, they are earnestly considering to develop this standard, where we may expect to attain a detailed announcement in the near future.

As this was our 30th time to hold the General Meeting, we had a special guest speech. From the photo industry, we had the Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd., Eastman Kodak Company, and Konica Minolta Photo Imaging, Inc. jointly promoting the possibilities in expanding the common standard PASS (Picture Archiving and Sharing Standard) make their introduction by Mr. Otsuka of Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd. Without the use of a PC and for simple enjoyment of digital photos, the necessity for the infrastructure and media, for large panel images with high-speed search and playback, and unifying interoperability with existing standards were explained. Aim for the standard system of preservation and retrieval of digital images from any digital device or storage medium. Licensing for this new standard are expected to commence from this summer of 2005. As influence to DVD-R and DVD-RW discs are also related to this standard, many of the members listened with great interest.

The domestic members as well as overseas members had great interest in his analysis and future prospects in the business. He mentioned that the RWPPI activities such as efforts for improvements in usability through "Members Questionnaire" and "Round-Robin-Test" are very good, where effects for benefits on a worldwide basis will probably reach 1 billion people. For future growth of popular hit products, he requested the balance of standardization and profit to be made, ending the meeting safely.
