Fujifilm highlights new technologies at NAB

Collinear Holography promises standard DVD-sized media of 300 GB to several terabytes on a single disc
Next week at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show in Las Vegas, Fuji Photo Film U.S.A., Inc. will again demonstrate one of the most unique combinations of products, technology, support and service for the broadcast and IT industries.
From capture to edit to distribution and archiving, Fujifilm will showcase products and technology based on a 70-year history of imaging expertise, thin film-coating engineering and unwavering focus on quality and precision, such as:
- A sample 200 gigabyte (GB) Holographic Versatile Disc (HVD), that uses an innovative new process called Collinear(TM) Holography that promises standard DVD-sized media of 300 GB to several terabytes on a single disc - with transfer rates of one gigabit per second. Fujifilm is a founding member of the HVD Alliance, which currently boasts membership of 11 global technology companies
- Optical media (CD/DVD) is increasingly being used in field and studio applications as an alternative storage and duplication technology. Fujifilm will show a broad line of high-speed (16X), high capacity (double layer) and printable optical media and a recent package design that simplifies format and recording speed selection
- New storage technology from Quantum designed specifically for the broadcast market. The new system marries proven data storage technology with the industry standard MXF file format as a solution for networks wrestling with massive data editing needs in a digital and increasingly high definition environment
- Fujifilm ETERNA500 Color Negative Film, the company's new highly versatile motion picture tungsten balanced color negative film announced last fall, offers ultra-fine grain through Super Nano-structured Sigma Grain Technology; consistent gray balance over a broad range from underexposure to overexposure, and stable reproduction of skin tones
- Fujifilm branded digital tape stock continues to be an essential tool used in news gathering and high definition cinematography, with media such as Fujifilm HD331 HD Cam tape for capturing and archiving high quality HD content to Fujifilm MiniDV and Fujifilm DV131 DVCam tape that works well with the new cost-effective HDV format camcorders;
Fujifilm Optical Digital Visual Interface (DVI) Link System, a short-distance, high-speed optical cable for studio, event and other commercial video transfer applications. Based on a proprietary Fujifilm plastic optical fiber called LUMISTAR, the cable will be used at the Fujifilm NAB booth to transmit a high definition demo reel supplied by filmmaker and journalist Bill Kurtis to a large LCD panel
- Fujifilm enterprise class storage solutions highlight the company's unique Nanocubic? coating technology that contributed to the development of the IBM 3592 TotalStorage System and Fujifilm 3592 Tape Cartridge on display in the booth
- Fujinon, a sister company to Fujifilm USA, will also showcase the next generation of Precision Focus Assist, a built-in feature addressing the precise focus needs for HDTV production due to the shallow depth of focus of HD and lack of size and resolution in camera viewfinders.
Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd. in Tokyo invests more that 1.6 billion dollars worldwide in research and development annually - approximately 4.3 million dollars a day - and was ranked in the top ten companies granted U.S. patents during the last decade.
Fujifilm will also release an update to the paper published last year, Managing and Storing Digital and HD Content: Sitting on an Uncomfortable Fence, that provides insight from three Fujifilm executives into a market where IT and broadcast production strategies are converging in an era of High Definition and high capacity DVD (Blu-ray, HD-DVD and Holographic) technology. |
