Message Text: Asustek Computer was the only first-tier maker to see on-year motherboard shipment growth in March and for the first quarter of this year.

Competitors such as Elitegroup Computers (ECS), Gigabyte Technology and Micro-Star International (MSI) saw a decline in their shipments from last year, according to shipment totals released by the companies.

Asustek, ECS, Gigabyte and MSI shipped a combined 8.2 million motherboards in March, up 23% sequentially, thanks to demand pickup in China and more working days, according to the companies. However, shipments from the four makers dropped about 13% sequentially to 22.59 million motherboards in the first quarter, due to seasonal effects.

For March graphics card shipments, Asustek and Gigabyte also enjoyed on-year growth of more than 50%, while shipments from MSI remained flat.

Asustek subsidiary ASRock also hit monthly shipments of one million motherboards in March for the first time ever, according to the company. ASRock shipped 2.7 million motherboards in the first quarter, achieving 22.5% of its full-year projection.
