I-O DATA today announced the availability of “DVDP-i8”, a new DVD-ROM/RAM drive. It
is the first portable DVD-RAM drive production which corresponds to the UDF DVD-RAM
format, meaning that you can read and write DVD-RAM media, among with CD-R/RW media.
(DVD-RW is not yet supported).
The drive supports 8X DVD-ROM reading speed, 2X DVD-RAM reading and 24X CD-ROM
reading.
Also,the drive uses the I CONNECT interface in order to be attached to any SCSI or
IEEE1394 desktop PC.

Dimensions: 140x150x20mm (wxdxh)
Weight: 380gr
OS compatibility: Windows 95 (after the OSR2) /98/Me/NT 4.0/2000
Note that the drive cannot play DVD-VIDEO under WinNT-4.0 OS, since it is connected
in 16bit mode.
“DVDP-i8” will be shipped by I-O Data by the end of May and its price will be
approximately $300. Attractive price, isn’t it?
