Message Text: Sony had planned to bring the PSP to market in Europe toward the end of March, following its December 12 launch in Japan.

It was due to start selling in the United States on March 24. But the company said that demand has exceeded production and will therefore put off shipments to Europe for several months.

Sony will postpone the European launch of its new PlayStation Portable (PSP) for several months.

The reason for the delay, according to Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) France chief Georges Fornay, is that the company is struggling to meet stronger-than-expected demand.

Sony had planned to bring the PSP to market in Europe toward the end of March, following its December 12 launch in Japan. It was due to start selling in the United States on March 24.

Early in March, SCE had warned that it was reconsidering the timing of the launch, as it thought customers would not be satisfied if the consoles were released in insufficient quantities.
