Message Text: Priced at $1,229(a), Business-Focused Notebook Features Next-Generation Intel(R) Centrino(TM) Mobile Technology

Toshiba's Digital Products Division, a division of Toshiba America Information Systems Inc. and provider of industry-leading portable computers, projectors and other mobile-related services and products, today introduced the Tecra(R) A4 notebook, an affordable, widescreen notebook with the power and performance of a desktop computer.

"The unique coupling of advanced technology with an inviting price point makes the Tecra A4 notebook an ideal mobile computing solution for education, government and small- to medium-sized businesses," said Taro Hiyama, vice president of marketing, Digital Products Division, Toshiba America Information Systems.

With a streamlined form factor weighing just 6.2(b) pounds, the Tecra A4 houses a 15.4-inch diagonal widescreen WXGA display to provide business users with a large, bright and sharp display. The versatile, wider display allows users to view and manage multiple documents, spreadsheets or browser windows on the screen simultaneously.

In addition, the Tecra A4 is one of the first notebooks to be powered by next-generation Intel(R) Centrino(TM) Mobile Technology (formerly codenamed Sonoma). This new mobile technology is built around Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processors with 533 MHz front side bus, integrated wireless LAN and the new Mobile Intel(R) 915 Express chipset (formerly codenamed Alviso). This combination of features enables the Tecra A4 to deliver better performance and improved wireless and mobile security options.

Toshiba's Tecra A4 offers users a complete suite of communication options, including built-in Gigabit Ethernet, V.92 modem, optional Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection (802.11b/g(c)) or Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2915 ABG Network Connection (802.11 a/b/g). To complete the suite of communications options, the Tecra A4 comes bundled with ConfigFree(R), Toshiba's intuitive graphic wireless management utility.

The Tecra A4 basic configuration includes an integrated CD-RW/DVD-ROM optical disc drive, 40GB(d) hard drive, 256MB shared memory(e) (expandable to 2GB), Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 900 (with up to 128MB UMA video memory) and Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Professional operating system. Features such as processor, memory, hard drive, optical drive and wireless LAN for the Tecra A4 are configurable to best meet individual customer needs.

The new Tecra A4 is available with either a 1- or 3-year limited warranty options with Toshiba's premier, global service for the mobile computing user. Customers can choose from several service options, including carry-in support at Authorized Service Providers throughout the country for same-day or next-day service, or utilizing any of more than 3,000 UPS Stores for packaging and delivery of the product to a centralized Depot for 24-hour service turnaround.

Toshiba also offers Ask Iris(R) Online, an instant response information service that alerts users to security software patches and provides other information regarding their product from Toshiba engineers and technical support staff.

The Tecra A4 will be available in January through Toshiba's VARs and ToshibaDirect (www.toshibadirect.com) with a starting price of $1,229(a).

The following accessories are available for the Tecra A4: an advanced port replicator, backup primary six-cell Lithium-Ion battery, a high-capacity, 12-cell Lithium-Ion battery, an additional AC adapter as well as a wide selection of carrying cases.
