Message Text: The small lens is intended for portable Blu-Ray disc players.

Victor Co. of Japan, Ltd. has announced the development of the world's first single ball object lens with a Numerical Aperture (NA) of 0.95.

The numerical aperture defines the ability to gather light and resolve fine specimen detail at a fixed object distance. The NA of the previous BD lens was 0.85. The diameter of the the new lens is 2.1mm, down from 4.1mm, making it ideal for portable players and any small mobile products using Blui-Ray discs.

JVC plans to market stationary Blu-ray disc players that have the lens possibly next year and begin offering portable players soon thereafter.
