Demand for VoIP surges in Taiwan; makers begin receiving more domestic orders

Taiwanese ISPs (Internet service providers) are gearing up for VoIP (voice over IP) deployment in Taiwan this year, according to sources in the telecom industry.

Competitors including Asia Pacific Online Service (APOL), Mackay Telecommunications, Seednet and Taiwan Telecom Network Services (TTN) have placed VoIP equipment orders with domestic network equipment makers, said the sources.

The makers, including Accton Technology, D-Link, InnoMedia and Tecom, initially received large VoIP orders from domestic customers, according to sources.
