Zoran names additional defendants in patent infringement claim against MediaTek

Zoran and its wholly owned subsidiary Oak Technology amended its patent infringement complaint in the United States District Court in Los Angeles, California against MediaTek and Mintek.

Zoran and Oak amended their complaint to name the following additional defendants: Asustek Computer, Lite-On Information Technology Corp., Teac Corporation, Teac America, Inc., Terapin Technology Pte., Ltd. Corporation and Teraoptix L.P. d/b/a Terapin Technology. The lawsuit, Case No. SA CV 04-0313 GLT (RCx), seeks both monetary damages and an injunction to stop the importation and sale of products manufactured by defendants that infringe three patents jointly owned by Zoran and Oak.

The complaint alleges that Asustek, Lite-On I.T., MediaTek, TEAC, and TEAC America products infringe United States Patent Nos. 6,584,527 and 6,546,440, which relate to optical drive controller design. The complaint further alleges that MediaTek, Mintek, Terapin and Terapin Technology products also infringe United States Patent No. 6,466,736, which relates to integrated DVD/CD controller and processor design.

Zoran and Oak are also prosecuting a patent infringement complaint in the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) against Asustek Computer, Inc., Lite-On Information Technology Corp., Teac Corporation, Teac America, Inc., Terapin Technology Pte., Ltd. Corporation, Teraoptix L.P. d/b/a Terapin Technology and Jiangsu Shinco Electronic Group Co., Ltd and Shinco International AV Co., Ltd. That action requests that the ITC issue exclusion and cease and desist orders prohibiting the importation into the United States of certain MediaTek controller chips and chipsets and of certain products sold by the other respondents that contain the accused MediaTek chips and chipsets.
