Blu-ray Disc founders welcome TDK as ther newest member


Blu-ray`s Disc developers announced on March 18 at Cebit 2004 trade show, the coorporation with TDK to develop and establish Blu-ray Disc, as next generation optical disc.

Blu-ray Disc provides up to 50Gb on a dual layer single sided disc, which is about 5 hours of high definition video. On the rewritable media storage capacity is 25Gb, while the dimensions will be like the current available CDs and DVDs, 120mm.

On the compatibility part the Blu-ray disc will be made backward compatible with red laser DVD and it will allow the way that consumers can use their existing DVDs on a Blu-ray Disc product.

Blu-ray Disc is being optimized for both Pc and CE applications.
The specifications of the rewritable Blu-ray Disc are ready, while the read-only and recordable versions will follow up soon
