HP announces new dual format DVD burners

One of the most faithful supporters of the DVD plus format, Hewllet Packard, decided to include support for the "dash" format in the upcoming DVD burners. The skipped the 4x speed and will offer the maximum currently available recording speed for DVD-R, the 8x.

The drive will be available in an ATAPI version (dvd420i), as well as in an external USB 2.0/Firewire (dvd420e). Both drives will offer 8x writing for DVD-R/+R and 4x for DVD-RW/+RW. The DVD-ROM discs will be read at 12x CAV. The 24x/10x/40 (CD-RW) complete the drives' specifications.

However, it is not sure whether those new recorders will be available in the retail market or they will be addressed for use through OEM channels.
