New Philips DVD recorder burns 8,5GB DVDs

Philips will present on the Cebit the DVD double Layer burner "DVDRW 885K". The burner burns DVD+R blanks with nearly the double capacity compared to the present DVD burners.

All data will be able to fit on a double Layer blank 8.5 dvd. The drive’s primary speed on a DVD+R is 8x while the second Layer of the disc will be burned at 2.4x. On DVD+RWs the drive will be able to write only on single layer dvd’s at a speed of 4x. The DVD-ROM reading speed is set to 12x, and the specifications for CD include the 24x10x40x speeds. The DVD burner “DVDRW 885K” will be available in the market from July. No information about the product’s price yet.
