Philips' new USB ICs to support up to 480Mbps rates

Philips launched a Hi-Speed Universal Serial Bus (USB) host and peripheral controllers for embedded systems, supporting data transfer speeds up to 480Mbps.

The ISP1760 is a Hi-Speed USB host controller and the ISP1761 is a single-chip Hi-Speed USB host and peripheral controller with USB On-the-Go (OTG) support.

The USB host and peripheral controllers feature high throughput and low power consumption, enabling consumers to transfer content from digital electronics devices such as video cameras to PCs and to other devices quickly and easily. The ISP176x Intel XScale/Linux reference kit will be available in the first quarter of 2004 and the ISP176x PCI reference kit will be available in the second quarter of 2004.

There is tremendous growth opportunity for USB and USB OTG functionality for use in a variety of mobile applications in both the PC and consumer electronics markets. The ISP1760 host controller is optimal for set-top boxes (STB), digital televisions (DTV), DVD recorders and other consumer products enabling them to easily be attached to high-speed peripherals such as printers, hard disk drives, memory cards or scanners for convenient output, storage and review.

The ISP1761 host/peripheral controller supports Hi-Speed capability for both the device and host function. As such, it is OTG capable and handles high-speed, 480Mbps, point-to-point communication between portable devices, such as mobile handsets, personal digital assistants (PDA), digital still cameras, digital video cameras and MP3 players. With USB OTG, consumers can easily connect devices such as digital cameras or cameras directly to a printer.
