RWPPI demonstrates two-layer DVD recording at CES


Pioneer demonstrated two layer DVD recording on DVD-R in the RWPPI booth at CES, Las Vegas. The technology development was announced in October 2003. The company used a Pioneer DVR-A06 DVD recorder to record the dual layer disc.

According to Pioneer, changing the firmware of the A06 is enough to ofeer recording on two layers. However, two-layer recording specifications are not yet announced by DVD forum.

During the demonstration, about 100MB of data was recorded in each layer.The recording speed was the 2x. Pioneer claims that the dual layer discs will offer adequate compatibility with home DVD players.
