CEATEC 2003: New Blue laser DVD recorders

Ceatec 2003 opened its doors today in Chiba Japan. In the booths of many major manufacturers such as JVC, Sharp and Pioneer the first Blue Laser DVD recorders (prototypes) have made their appearances.

The Pioneer prototype supports recording of 25GB on a single layer disc, while the device is capable of reproducing dual layer discs.

Sharp's proposal for Blue Laser recording includes some extra features such as a built-in digital tuner for direct tuning to satellite broadcastings.

The Panasonic and JVC recorders make the difference with a dual layer recording support, meaning that a maximum storage capacity of 50GB can be achieved on a Blue laser disc.
