DVD+RW Alliance introduced 8X DVD+R specifications

The DVD+RW Alliance officially presented the specification for 8X for DVD+R. According to the specifications, the 8X DVD+R writing strategy will allow writing of 4.7GB in 9-10 min.

8X-DVD+R media is already announced by many manufacturers and its availability is expected from the fourth quarter of 2003. Verbatim recently announced the first 8X DVD+R and 8X DVD-R for the end of October. TDK plans to launch 8X DVD+R (Ricoh) by January 2004 while it makes one more step with Scratchproof DVD+R 8X discs, possibly more expensive by 20-30%.
