LaCie launches 8x DVD+/-RW

LaCie said it is shipping their new DVD+/-RW. The drive is capable of write speeds of 8x and rewrite speeds at 4x, and each drive ships with a full copy of Roxio's Toast Titanium 6.

With its FireWire interface and 8x write speeds, LaCie says the drive is capable of burning a two-hour movie in less than 10 minutes. "LaCie d2 Dual 8x DVD+/-RW delivers industry leading recording speed and quality," said Salem Tirane, LaCie product manager. "This new Dual DVD reinforces our position as a industry leader in the professional market."

LaCie followed the "d2" design adopted for many of its drives over the last year for this new device. The drive is encased in a metal alloy that dissipates heat to prolong drive performance. To prevent further heat emission, LaCie developed the power supply for the d2 design with an external AC adapter to keep the drive cool without the need for a fan, according to the company.
