Lindows.com announces immediate availability of the Lindows media computer

Lindows.com announces shipment of the first low cost multi-purpose computer called the Lindows Media Computer. This unique device combines a DVD player, CD player and personal computer into one compact affordable package.

The Lindows Media Computer starts up in about 10 seconds and displays an intuitive on-screen selector to play DVDs, music CDs, MP3 CDs or even the increasingly popular VCD format. Once the media format is selected, the viewer can use the on-screen controls with a mouse or the included multimedia keyboard to navigate and control the playback. The on-screen controls provide advanced DVD features such as chapter navigation, instant audio-channel changes and jumping to scene selection, as well as full screen playback. When listening to music, the Lindows Media computer provides a spectrum analyzer as well as the on-screen navigation.

In addition to operating as an "instant on" DVD, CD, MP3 and VCD player, the Lindows Media Computer has all the functionality of a desktop PC. After a single-click of a mouse button, the machine becomes a full-fledged LindowsOS computer ready for Internet duties, productivity tasks or games.

The versatile form factor and energy efficient design make the Lindows Media Computer an ideal computer for many environments where a bulky desktop would not fit or would be too intrusive. About the size of a thick phone book, the sleek black Lindows Media Computer packs tremendous functionality into a small space. Its unique design means it can operate standing on end or on its side to fit nicely on a small shelf or take up a minimum amount of desk space. Due to low power consumption, the Lindows Media Computer is very efficient to operate.

"For under $350 retail, consumers can have a DVD player, CD player and personal computer in every room of the house or office," said Michael Robertson, chief executive officer of Lindows.com Inc. "'Instant on' gives the Lindows Media Computer the speed and ease-of-use of traditional media components and LindowsOS gives it the versatility of a complete personal computer all in one compact box."

Lindows Media Computers come with all the software necessary to replace a stack of electronic devices with one compact box that includes DVD playback software, CD software and LindowsOS 3.0. LindowsOS is an easy-to-use operating system ideally suited for internet activities and productivity applications. The bundled Netscape software suite means AOL users can also use the Lindows Media Computer to check their AOL mail accounts and Instant Messenger (AIM) accounts, making the Lindows Media Computer incredibly versatile.
