In-Stat: DVD recorder shipments to grow 32-fold by 2006

Thanks to falling prices, DVD recorders shipments will reach 32 million units in 2006, up nearly 32 times from an estimated one million units this year, according to In-Stat/MDR. As more manufacturers produce DVD recorders, pricing will drop to under US$400 or even US$300 by the end of 2003. At less than US$300, more consumers will purchase DVD recorders instead of DVD players, the market research firm said.

About 53 million DVD players will be shipped this year, up 61% from previous year. It is estimated that the DVD player market will hit 84 million units in 2006.
