SONY post information about recommended discs and compatibility of DRU-500A


SONY USA released information about the types of writable disc that can be used with the DRU-500A and DRX-500UL DVD/CD rewritable drives. As SONY says "...The DRU-500A and DRX-500UL DVD/CD rewritable drives are designed for best performance with discs produced by major disc manufacturers. In most cases, there is no problem as long as you use discs conform to various CD and DVD industry standard. However, some of discs on the market do not meet the recognized quality and performance standards. With the DRU-500A and DRX-500UL, we recommend the disc manufacturers and discs below. Further information about write errors, when writing data to the DVD-R of some of disc manufacturers, has been presented..."

Disc manufacturers and discs certified for operation with the DRU-500A and DRX-500UL drives are:

Sony Corp. Disc labeled for use at 4x speed
Mitsubishi Chemical Co. Ltd. Disc labeled for use at 4x speed
Ricoh Co., Ltd. Disc labeled for use at 4x speed

DVD+RWs
Sony Corp. Disc labeled for use at 2.4x speed
Mitsubishi Chemical Co., Ltd. Disc labeled for use at 2.4x speed
