NEC announces next generation DVD recording using Blue Laser


NEC Japan announced its own proposal for the next generation DVD recording using Blue Laser. NEC's proposal is different that the Blu-Ray and what Toshiba has proposed in past. NEC uses laser with wave length of the laser the NA of the 405nm and the object glass (numerical aperture) 0.65. It uses 2 disks of 0.6mm thick with 120mm diameter. The capacity is smaller than what Toshiba's and Blu-Ray has proposed of 20.5GB (single side). NEC says that its possible to use 2layers and increase capacity up to 35GB! Lastly NEC said that since their system uses 0.65NA lens, compatibility with existing DVD drives may be possible...
