Google May Launch a Game Streaming Service: report

Google is reportedly developing a subscription-based game streaming service that could work either on its Chromecast or a Google-made console.

The Information website reported on Wednesday that the
service, codenamed Yeti, would allow people play games as they're being streamed, rather than using downloads or disks.

Obviously, such a service would be based on Google's cloud servers. But the question is whether Yeti will be compatible with existing streamed games or it would require the developemnt of new games.

Google declined to comment.

Yeti could be comparable to game streaming services like Sony's PlayStation Now and Nvidia's GeForce Now. Other existing game subscription offerings like Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass let users download unlimited games from a pre-selected pool of titles for a monthly fee.

Last month, Google hired gaming industry veteran Phil Harrison, who had been working for both PlayStation and Xbox.
