Oak Technology today announced its distribution agreement with EDOM Technology, a foremost distributor of electronic components in Taiwan and China.
Under terms of the agreement, EDOM will distribute Oak's optical storage products, targeting CD-RW and recordable DVD for the PC and consumer electronics markets in Taiwan and China. The partnership will also focus on the development and deployment of related technologies and standards, such as introducing a new generation of DVD-Recordable and CD-R/RW+DVD combo semiconductor-based solutions.
The explosive growth of digital audio, video and other portable digital media is driving demand for advanced CD-RW and recordable DVD capability in PC and consumer applications. According to market research firm IDC, the global production of CD-RW, Combo, and recordable DVD units in 2005 is estimated 85-million, 50-million, and 45-million units respectively.
