Samsung Confirmed February Launch of Galaxy S9

Samsung confirmed previous reports that its next flagship smartphone (Galaxy S9 and S9+) will be unveiled at the MWC held in February in Barcelona, Spain.

Early Galaxy S9 rumors said that Samsung planned to unveil the phone at CES 2018, but as we got closer to the trade show, other reports said that Samsung changed its mind.

Samsung mobile's chief DJ Koh, who revealed that the Galaxy X foldable phone may be postponed to 2019, went on record to say the Galaxy S9 will be unveiled next month.

Koh said that the Galaxy S9 will be unveiled in February at the trade show in Barcelona. The Galaxy S9 will probably launch at some point in March in several markets around the world.

Samsung's 'Unpacked' media event will most probably take place one day before MWC officially kicks off.

A render posted on Twitter supposedly showing the Galaxy S9 reveals a vertically stacked camera lens and fingerprint sensor on the rear, flanked by a flash unit and other sensors. The front shows similarly sized bezels above and below the screen to the Galaxy S8. A USB Type-C port and a 3.5mm headphone jack can be spotted on the bottom of the phone.

The Galaxy S9 renders have a single camera lens on the back, while another render that may show the Galaxy S9 Plus - this time in video form - indicates the large phone may get two camera lenses.

Adding a dual-sensor shooter to the Galaxy S9 Plus would match Apple's similar strategy followed with the iPhone 8 and the larger iPhone 8 Plus.

Samsung is working on a sensor capable of shooting at 1,000 frames per second, according to a new report published by ETNews. Sony's Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ Premium have sensors that can shoot 960 fps, the highest of any smartphone.

Regarding screens, South Korean publication The Bellhas reported that the regular-size S9 will feature a 5.77-inch panel, while the bigger S9 Plus will sport a 6.22-inch screen.

Both a fingerprint sensor and an improved iris/facial scanners are rumored for inclusion. But don't expect to see an in-display fingerprint sensor.

Samsung will also add the the new smartphones improved facial unlocking and Animoji-type features, powered by the Exynos 9 Series 9810 chip for international models. U.S. models will likely feature Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 845 chip.

In terms of storage, Samsung fans hope that the Galaxy S9 will come with much more storage capacity compared to its predecessor. Samsung has began mass-production of a 512GB flash storage solution for future mobile devices, so it could make its first appearance in the company's flagship Galaxy S9.
