6 DVD makers to get patent royalty from Chinese


Five Japanese and one U.S. companies with DVD-related patents have reached a basic agreement with a Chinese industry association over royalties, making it likely they will receive payments for patents from about 100 Chinese companies, industry sources said Monday.

The basic accord is not legally binding, but Chinese makers producing and selling DVD players without paying royalty fees are likely to each sign a contract and pay fees, they said...
