OSTA appoints new chairman of CD/DVD committee

"...The Optical Storage Technology Association (OSTA) today announced the appointment of Dave Suden, chief technology officer of Rimage Corp., as chairman of its CD/DVD Committee. In this role, Suden will be responsible for establishing a forum in which suppliers throughout the optical storage industry will address issues involving CD and DVD technologies.

"OSTA recognizes the need to keep pace with the many and frequent advances in CD and DVD technologies, and our CD/DVD Committee plays an active role in achieving that objective. With his expertise in this industry, Dave Suden is an excellent choice to chair this committee and lead OSTA in addressing CD and DVD product and technology issues," said Ray Freeman, OSTA facilitator.

"Chairing an OSTA Committee is an honor and a privilege," noted Suden. "I look forward to working with representatives of global optical storage suppliers in addressing important issues such as compatibility and interchangeability as new recordable CD and DVD solutions are developed for computers and consumer electronics devices."

"As an example of OSTA's efforts to ensure interchangeability," Suden continued, "we have recently developed the MultiPlay compatibility specification to help ensure that CD-R and CD-RW discs recorded on personal computers can be played in consumer CD and DVD players. We have also developed and approved a new logical format to store and retrieve files more easily when recording MP3 and other compressed audio files on CD."..."
