Social Networks Unite To Tackle Fake News Online

Facebook and Twitter Inc have joined a network of over 30 news and technology companies that work together to raise awareness and standards around the use of newsworthy information and eyewitness media sourced from the social web.

First Draft News, which is backed by Google, announced Tuesday that some 20 news organizations will be part of its partner network to share information on best practices for journalism in the online age.

The coalition woill create a voluntary code of practice, promote news literacy among social media users, and launch a platform where members can verify questionable news stories.

The platform will be launched by the end of October.

Members of the group include the New York Times, Washington Post, BuzzFeed News, Agence France-Presse and CNN.
