Samsung, one of the first in the US to announce a combined CD-R/CD-RW/DVD-ROM product - COMBO


"..Samsung proudly introduces a new and innovative product, COMBO. Samsung's COMBO combines the best technologies to provide the simplicity of viewing your favorite high-resolution DVD movies to backing up valuable data on CDs all in one drive. In one unique package, COMBO (SM-304) provides speeds such as 4X CD-Recording, 4X CD-Rewriting, 24X CD-ROM Reading, and 4X DVD-ROM reading.

With competitive seek times in the industry, Samsung's COMBO offers Average Access Times of 120ms for DVD and 110ms for CD. COMBO also has added features such as Annular Mask Lens (na 0.6 and 0.5), which is a patented on core pick-up component, and Acoustic-Noise Reduction System (ARS), a technology that Samsung prides itself in. The COMBO drive package is bundled with Adaptec's Easy & Direct CD, Power DVD, and CD-R/RW media. The retail bundle price for Samsung's COMBO is $349. COMBO begins shipping May 1st, 2000.
