IBM unveils 73GB hard drive

"..With a capacity of 73.4GB, the new Ultrastar 72ZX drive beats all storage capacity records for hard disks, according to officials at the Armonk, N.Y., company.
The 72ZX and the 36LZX, which run at 10,000 RPM, boast a data density of 7.04 million bits per square inch, another milestone, officials said. For speed, the Ultrastar drives, which also include the 7200RM Ultrastar 36LP, support an update of the Ultra 160 SCSI standard.
The Ultrastar features Active Damping, which reduces vibration and temperature changes. The 10,000 RPM drive will support Ultra160 SCSI, as well as 1Gbit and 2Gbit Fibrechannel. IBM has not yet announced any IDE versions of the drive.
The Ultra 36LP and 36LZX drives will start shipping in limited quantities this quarter. The Ultrastar 72ZX will ship in the first quarter of 2000. Pricing was not available.."
