NS600G network-attached storage by EMC

EMC has announced a series of new mid-tier network-attached storage (NAS) products and enhancements. With this announcement, EMC is further expanding its broad NAS product family and offering more choice and flexibility for customers' mid-tier networked storage needs.

The new offerings include the NS600G, a NAS gateway that gives customers the ability to easily integrate NAS functionality into CLARiiON CX600 and CX400 storage systems.

"The Celerra NS600G helps customers lower costs through increased storage utilisation and dramatically reduces complexity and management by enabling SAN and NAS functionality to co-exist in a single system," says Alex Robertson, Technology Solutions Group Manager, EMC SA. It is offered in both single- and dual-data mover configurations.

The NAS600S is the mid-tier entry-level model for the Celerra NS600 series and includes a single data mover, providing an attractive entry point for mid-tier NAS applications that initially do not require the service and performance levels of larger configurations. The NS600S provides customers with a simple, online upgrade to a high-availability (dual-data mover) configuration.

High capacity, lower cost ATA disk drives are now available in both integrated Celerra NS600 systems and Celerra CNS clustered environments. Every Celerra model now offers the economic advantages of ATA disk drives for new applications such as backup to disk from partners such as CommVault, Computer Associates, Legato and Veritas.

EMC's NetWin 200 couples the simplicity of Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003 with its proven CLARiiON CX200 networked storage platform.

"NetWin 200 is suited to those customers operating predominantly in a Microsoft Windows environment who require integration of NAS functionality, enabling them to more effectively manage, share and protect business-critical data," says Robertson.

"The NAS market has undergone significant change," he concludes. "The market is now demanding enterprise-level NAS capabilities in the mid-tier while, at the same time, more customers are using NAS for databases and database applications. With these NAS offerings, EMC is delivering enterprise capabilities to the mid-tier and addressing this entirely new class of market requirements."
