AMD Catalyst 12.6 Beta released, Company Moves Away From Monthly Driver Releases

AMD has released the AMD Catalyst 12.6 Beta, available for download here. With the release of the Catalyst 12.6 Beta driver, AMD also confirmed earlier reports that the company would move away from its Monthly Catalyst release plan and released drivers for the Windows 8 Release Preview.

"Our goal is to ensure that every Catalyst release delivers a substantial benefit to our end users; as we have today with the release of the Catalyst 12.6a Beta," said David Doel, AMD marketing team. "We will still continue with the Catalyst naming convention; Catalyst: Year.Month., You just won’t see a new driver every single month. We are confident that this will only benefit the end user; you’ll only need to upgrade to a new Catalyst driver, when it makes sense" he added.

AMD also introduced the AMD Issue Reporting Form. The company made a number of improvements to the older Catalyst Crew Feedback form, making it more comprehensive. AMD said that it would review every report posted and investigate every issue encountered.

AMD Catalyst 12.6 Beta resolved issues:
  • AMD Radeon HD 7900, AMD Radeon HD 7800 Tri-CrossFire configurations + Eyefinity no longer results in a BSOD when launching a DirectX application
