Dell And Baidu Launches Streak Pro Smartphone in China

Dell and China's largest search engine Baidu unveiled on Tuesday the Streak Pro smartphone in China.

Dell unveiled its latest smartphone at a press conference earlier today in Beijing. It is the first smartphone based on the Baidu-Yi mobile platform.

The new 3G+ smartphone features a dual-core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm processor and a Super AMOLED 4.3-inch display with a screen resolution of 960 x 540. The screen also includes Corning Gorilla Glass for extra durability.

Dell paired solid hardware with the flexible Baidu-Yi mobile platform developed by Baidu to meet the needs of Chinese users. The new linux-based mobile platform integrates some of the core Baidu services that people in China already use, like the popular Ting music service for example. Many of these make use of the "localized" cloud services that are part of the mobile OS platform. Another main feature included on Baidu Yi is the company's SmartBox Search, which not only queries terms on the Internet, but will also search for online music, mobile apps, and even the phone's own contacts and text messages. Baidu Yi also debuts the company's own mobile browser. Baidu is offering access to mobile apps through its own virtual store, and has signed agreements with the app stores of operators and other partners.

The Chinese search giant is in talks with other handset vendors to use the Baidu Yi mobile platform, and is also considering making it available on tablets.

The Streak Pro smartphone will be available soon to China Unicom customers via Dell.com/cn and other designated channels.

China is a key part of Dell's mobile strategy and has grown to become the world's largest smartphone market. has been choosing to launch some of its newest mobile In July, the company launched a 10-inch Android tablet exclusively in the country, selling it at the time for 2999 yuan (US$466).
