Barnes & Noble has enhanced its NOOK Color tablet with a software update to the device now available for free, adding many feature enhancements, access to video and music services, apps, comics and more.
The new update brings movies and TV shows through services like Netflix and Flixster which, through the UltraViolet standard, will allow users to access their digital movies and TV shows on the go.
NOOK Color owners can also listen to songs using Pandora, Rhapsody, Grooveshark and MOG services, all available with a free 14-day trial. In addition, NOOK Color owners can listen to their own songs wherever they go with the built-in music player.
New NOOK App additions include games published by Chillingo such as Roll in the Hole and Spider Jack, I Can Read, Cozi Family Organizer, Audobon Insects, Pat the Bunny, and more. New holiday-themed apps including How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, The Berenstain Bears' Christmas Tree, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, and Tacky's Christmas - all with a reduced pricing promotion for the holidays. Also, find All I Want from Santa, Emma In: A Sweet Christmas plus a lineup of holiday-centric live wallpapers, themes and much more.
The update also brings faster, easier access to Barnes & Noble's digital catalog of color and interactive books, magazines, children's books and now comics and graphic novels.
In addition, the software update makes it easier to find new content. With just a tap, you can shop the redesigned NOOK Store to find your next read, kids' book, newsstand title or app - plus get recommendations. You can now read books in both portrait or landscape and adjust the text with even more font sizes to choose from.
You can sideload the update here immediately at no cost: www.nookcolor.com/update. The free over the air (OTA) delivery to Barnes & Noble's customers connected to Wi-Fi begins this week.
