Dell Halts Sales of Android Tablet in US

Dell has stopped selling its Streak Android tablets in the US market, as rival Amazon's new Kindle Fire has heated up in a market dominated by Apple's iPad.

A message on Dell's website said that the seven-inch Streak tablet powered by Android operating software would no longer be sold in the United States.

While some retail sites still have stock, the company no longer offers the Streak for sale from its own website and will no longer produce it.

The 7-inch tablet was announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in January but it failed to gain momentum, after goin on sale with a T-Mobile contract. Currently, the only Dell tablet still in production is the 10-inch Streak, sold in China.

The fadeout of the 7-inch Streak follows the disappearance of the 5-inch Streak in August.

Dell seems to be ready to move on to making Windows 8 tablets when the operating system launches next year.
